Music Therapy
I am a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered music therapist based in the Wirral area. My specialism is working with children and adults with autism and learning disabilities, but I have experience working within a broad range of settings, with children and adults with disabilities, children and families in crisis, people living with dementia, and people with mental health needs.
I am very much rooted in the music centred, person focused approach of Nordoff and Robbins, having been fortunate enough to be first trained and then employed by the organisation for 5 years.
I hold an enhanced DBS check and professional indemnity and public liability insurance. I am a member of the British Association for Music Therapy.
About music therapy
-
Music therapy is an established psychological clinical intervention, which is delivered by HCPC registered music therapists who are trained to use music to support people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability, with psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs. By making music together, then tuning into people’s individual responses, music therapists create a platform for connection and self-expression.
-
Making music in this way can provide opportunities for development in many areas (tailored to each client). Some of these include: improving social interaction and communication skills, opportunity for self expression, building confidence, and reducing isolation.
-
In sessions we make music together , using instruments and our voices. Sessions can take the form of in-the-moment improvisation, recalling known songs or creating new ones. There is no requirement to be musically trained.
I currently have spaces for home visit sessions in the Wirral area, for children with SEN and their families. If you are interested in finding out more or for a referral form, get in touch.
